EQUUS @ Moonambel opened its Cellar Door on a hill with 360 degree views at Easter 2015. In the heart of the Pyrenees, John Kirkpatrick and Patricia Mullins bought the young vineyard of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon vines in 2005. With winemaker, Owen Latta, five vintages have been produced since 2008.
However, at EQUUS we bring something else. In particular, Patricia is recognised worldwide as a children’s book illustrator and writer. “Hattie and the Fox” (by Men Fox) is still in print.Now, customers love tasting wine and buying an autographed book for their children or grandchildren. This brings in a different aspect to the cellar door experience.

Our wine making philosophy is to produce wines that are elegant and flavoursome, rather than bold and overripe. By keeping the alcohol content of our table wines down around 13%, we believe they then show their true varietal characters.
This also has the added benefit of enabling the consumption of a couple of glasses of wine with a meal, without falling over. Even our Desert Plum Wine has an alcohol level below 17%.
Our wines include bottle-aged Sparkling Ciders, Fumé Chenin Blanc, Elegant Aged Cabernet Sauvignons ranging from 1999 to 2007, a 2015 Cabernet Vintage Liqueur and an oak-aged Tawny Plum Port.
